JPA Interview Experience 2012

A week before the interview, I'd waited for the result whether I got shortlist for the interview by the JPA or not. I was getting very nervous and wake up early in the morning. Checked the esila website on 9 a.m. , still no link or news on the website. Checked it again on 12 p.m. ,but still there is no review for the result. So, I wait and wait and poof! on 5 p.m. , the esila website gives out the result and I am shortlisted for the interview for the German,France,Japan and Korea Engineering Programme.
So, the letter from JPA told me to go Kampus Intan Sabah at 9 a.m. . The letter also stated that I need to come to the Kmps. Intan 30 minutes earlier for candidates registration.

So, I was the first candidate to arrive there. Then, I went to the cafeteria to check all of my documents. On 8.30 p.m. ,  I went into the waiting room for the candidates. There's a candidate (girl) already waiting inside the Waiting Room. So I sat, and then she greet me. We had a little conversation and the candidates in the room were getting more. Then, we were ordered to go into another room and on the other room, I'd chat with a guy beside me ( he's a Malay ) and the one next to him ( a Kadazan guy ) . So, all of the candidates were divided into groups and my members were the Malay guy and the Kadazan guy (luckily, they were the one who sat next to me in that room) and the girl who had small conversation with me earlier and a Chinese girl ( she happened sit in front of me in the waiting Room ).

Phase of Interview : 1.group discussion ( fully English ) - discuss Proton and sense of belonging
                                  2.interview
3.group discussion ( fully BM ) - discuss the addiction of Internet and how to prevent

2012 are different. There are no any Psychological question to do . First, we go to the group discussion which use English as primary language and then the interview.

        INTERVIEW SESSION

Panel : 2 ( a Man and a Woman )

Group : 5 students in the group, 3 boys and 2 girls. 1 Malay guy, 2 Kadazan guys ( includes me),a Chinese girl and the girl I had a little conversation before ( I don't really know her race.)

Country Applied : Malay guy (Japan), Kadazan guy (France), Me (Korea), Chinese girl (German), and the girl (France)

1.Self Introduction
For us, there is no any self introduction and we were asked directly many questions by the interviewer.

2.The Question Part
   i. Are you proud to be a Malaysian?
With my broken English, I said, I'm proud of Malaysia because of its multiracial people. We don't see much our  differences and rarely raising this racists thing. ( in that interview, I didn't speak like this, haha.. in that interview, multiracial=many race,  rarely= don't always hear). I also spoke about Malaysian have innovation. We build our own car (Proton) , own handphone (CSL) and others.

ii. When you finish you studies, what would you like to develop in your country especially in Sabah?
I would like to take Electrical Engineering as my course ( still have no idea whether JPA are giving the courses for one who apply Korea or not ) . To reduce the blackout in Sabah. In this state, average 3 times blackout happened in a month. So, I want to improve it. Zero defect as in Korea and Japan. To share my knowledge.

iii. On what assurance, would you be back to Sabah after you graduate?
I talk about how I will surely miss my family, my culture and my friends. I said don't want to Skype-ing them only, but to see the real them (family, friends). My Skype-ing answer seems like didn't reflect any mature in me.argh! . To build a house for my family (even more ridiculous) when I got a job in Malaysia. But I also said that the bond between government and me give a secure job to me.
For the future candidates, instead of saying things like economy, family or ect, think of something that is out of the box. The interviewer had already heard that speech before and still, many students stay abroad after they graduate. Thus, the confidence in them (the interviewer) are lesser.

iv. Beritahu saya bagaimanakah perkembangan bidang Aeroangkasa di negara kita dan bagaimana cara untuk kita memperkasakan bidang itu?
I've become worried because I did not search anything about this thing and I only know about Dr.Mazlan as the one who do all this aeroangkasa stuff. I let the other member to answer it and gather all the information from their speech. My opinion were, we have to let the kids know the importance of aeroangkasa in our country. At least, send more astronaut. Do programme in school. And lastly, the government should send more students to other countries and learn Aeronautics engineering ( I point to JPA ) . haha.

  v. Which country do you apply and why do you want to go there?Tell the names of the university that you would like to enroll?
My hands were ready and as the interviewer state the question. I raise my hand quickly. I am the first one to answer it ( this is the first time I got the chance to be the number one to answer ). I want to go to Seoul National University as it is the top three university in South Korea and the Electrical Engineering field in the university was ranked #49 in the world. (top 50) .
then the 1st interviewer ask me: oh I see.. then what Korean words do you know?
          me                                    : umm..Kamsahamnida!
1st interviewer                        : what is that?
me                                    : (oh man, I forgot to give a full formal answer)
2nd interviewer                 : it means Thank You
1st interviewer                   : oh. then what other words do you know?
me                                    :  ( oh man, what is the word.. oh ya!) Anyeonghaseyo
         1st interviewer                   : mmm?
         me                                    : it means Hello

Then, after the last member answer the last question, the interviewer session is over and everybody was getting more relieved. But, we still have one more activity before the JPA interview is over. We have to do the group discussion which use Bahasa Melayu as primary languange this time.

         Finally
The interview had finished and it was tiring. The interview went for about three hours and I was getting hungry. For the English discussion group, I'm the one who less talk in my group. So sad, because I can't speak English so well as the others. My idea generates slowly as I didn't use much my brain for about 5 months after SPM. and most of all I don't have not much confidence in the first discussion. But then, in interview session, I got some of my confidence and I think I do well in it. And in BM discussion, I think my performance is moderate. Still the ideas generates so slowly but I manage to control the situation a little bit ( I always agree with other people's opinion and re-speak their opinion. But, its all up to God now. Just pray.
